(and yes, I did make a necklace for Angelina (the one in this icon, actually) and send it to her... I enclosed a stamped postcard with a request for her agent to tell me if it got there, and the agent sent me the postcard back, so I know that it got as close to her as I can get it, but I don't know if she's actually seen it. I don't know if she'll ever write me back, she's so busy, but I hope that she did get to see it and I hope it encouraged her.)

How come The Sara & The Egyptian were not listed?

???
darkpool ══╣╠══
Yeah I was wondering that to, cause I thoguht the Egyptian was pretty cool but I couldn't vote for it.

:)

The Egyption is on there; I renamed it the Eve.
belenen ══╣garrulous╠══
Well, I ran out of options (the lj poll only lets me list 15) -- but the Egyption is on there; I renamed it the Eve.
thesaj ══╣╠══
Oh....Eve...
belenen ══╣garrulous╠══
after one of my favorite LJ friends. ;-)
eternitywaiting ══╣╠══
Yeeeaaah, okay, you'll have to throw in a vote for the Eve for me then. THe Egyption in...ahh, dark rainbow I think it was called (?) was my favorite.
belenen ══╣garrulous╠══
or you could re-take the poll..... ;-)

That one is so much more popular than I'd ever have expected.

Some comments based on your profile....

I will have to check out "War of the Flowers", Tad Williams wrote my favorite fantasy novel "Tailchaser's Song" (which I've loaned to Ms. Kimberley to read). If you have not read it, you must....

Wow...you've read the "Foreigner" series by C.J. Cherryh. Have you read the "Pride of Chanur" series. Quite fun. Also, a must read (if you can handle an excellent read with no real closure) is the Merovingen Night's series.

Other great reads, "The Misplaced Legion" by Harry Turtledove. Have you read any Robert A. Heinlein? My suggestions "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and for a quick read "Time for the Stars"

I read part of Tailchaser's Song... I need to go back and finish it. Somehow I didn't really like his style in that one.

I haven't read those two Cherryh series... but I certainly shall. She's one of my favorite authors, and I intend to at least sample each of her books (I hated, hated Cyteen, skim-hopped through a few chapters and returned it to the library unread. Too much sexual abuse going on in that one. Maybe after I'm healed I'll be able to handle it, but I'm not sure if I'll think it's worth it.)

Never heard of those authors... I just may check them out. Thanks for the suggestions!

Turtledove is probably most famed for his "alternate history" works. He does a lot of "what if" novels, series and short stories.

Robert A. Heinlein is considered one of the fathers of modern science fiction. Many consider him over Aasimov.

Most of his novels, stories, short stories, etc. all take place in the same universe (albeit sometimes different timelines). But you find a history of references every now and then. It's just one of those nice little perks. You're reading a novel and you read a reference to the revolt on Luna. Or a reference to such and such event.

A lot of his works express a political/socio-philosophy, but not in a repulsive way. Often just little comments on life like the word TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch). The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is definitely a superb read.

-------- Excerpt on bio ------------------

Robert Anson Heinlein (1907-1988) was arguably the most influential writer in the science fiction genre. He received 4 Hugo awards and the first SFWA Grand Master Award. His 31 novels are rarely out of print and include Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Heinlein grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and was honored as the Guest of Honor at the Kansas City World Science Fiction Convention in 1976 (MidAmericon) and two other World Science Fiction Conventions.

Thank you thank you thank you! ;-) I love to have compliments on my jewelry -- it's my visual art (like painting or pottery).

well my faves were the Rebecca the Sylvia and the Eternal.... but don't see them on the poll. i'm wondering if you renamed them?
belenen ══╣necklace╠══
nope, I didn't rename them, but I could only use 15 in the poll so I had to leave some out. :-( Thanks for commenting!
